FAQ's - Frequently Asked Questions

The NEW KUPOLI line of GeoShelters products has generated a lot of interest with a variety of questions from those wishing to research prior to their purhcase. We welcome your questions and hope to provide all the information you need to make an informed purchase. The following are some of the typical questions we have received along with helpful answers.

How strong is the frame structure when assembled? Can you hang things from it?

GeoShelters uses Aircraft Aluminum alloy with it's geodesic dome frame systems. This high-strength, high-torsion material is perfectly suited for use in our frames - frames that can flex as they support wind and snow loads - without bending. These frame systems are so strong, you can suspend several hundred pounds of load from any frame hub with confidence. Hammocks, suspended chairs, gear lofts, and other gear management systems can easily be employed without risk of deforming the frame, or causing a frame failure.

How strong is the cover for these domes? Can it hold up to weather and the weight of snow?

Absolutely! Our covers are made of an architectural vinyl fabric, custom fit to the geodesic frame. The cover material is UV protected and fire retardant, and rated for 5-7 years of year round outdoor use. GeoShelters have been set up and left in the rocky mountains over the winter, and easily withstood the 8+ feet of snow accumulation.

Is there an insulation package available?

Yes! After extensive research and development we are proud to offer a high quality, form-fitted insulation package. See our Shelters page for more details.

What are the poles made of?

Anodized aircraft aluminum.

How long do these take to set up? Does it take any special tools?

As with most things, there is a little bit of a learning curve the first time you set up your GeoShelter. The assembly is really made quite easy and intuitive with easy to follow insructions, color coded poles and interlocking shapes. When you have set up your dome once and become familiar with the process, it will typically take about an hour to set up your GeoShelter frame, 20 to 30 minutes to pull your cover over the frame and another 20 to 30 minutes to stake the cover and install the floor vapor barrier. You can view a timelapse video of an entire GeoShelter assembly that took just under 2 hours here. All the tools you need are included in your kit, though you may choose to use a drill and socket for quick turning of the nuts on the bolts.

Do you have a vestibule available to add to the dome?

YES!!! We are very excited about our NEW line of Kupoli GeoShelters, equipped with NEW wide doorways that our NEW Kupoli Vestibule easily attaches to, which gives you an additional 4.5 feet of entryway. Great for a mud room, Bathroom, Shower, etc.

Can you connect multiple domes together?

YES!!! The NEW Kupoli Doorways are designed with the ability to attach mutiple domes together using our NEW Kupoli Dome- to-Dome Connectors. A 24’ GeoShelter can now be attached to another 24’ or 16’ Shelter.

Do you have a repair kit for the cover should I tear or otherwise damage it?

Yes! It is well-worth having this on hand for any emergency for easy availability.

What is the Square Footage of each size?

16':   (8*8 ) 3.14159=201.1 square feet
24':   (12*12) 3.14159=452.4 square feet (DOUBLE the SPACE as the 16' GeoShelter!)

What do I get when I buy a GeoShelter?

Refer to the shelters page for more details, or Click above to view a parts list.

How strong is the zipper for the door?

Often zippers are the weakest point of any shelter, which is why we chose to use the strongest zipper available, the same YKK #10 required by the military in many of their applications.
